Check out Chihuahua tours.com. There are a variety of tours you can take if you need to just get away from the the world of immigration and business at the consulate. I have been on 3 tours with this company and think it is great. Tours last from 6 to 12 hours and start out at 300 pesos or around $26. Lunch is included in the price. You are picked up and dropped off at your hotel. We took the city tour which includes visits to two museums, a visit to the the park and cathedral, a little shopping downtown, and lunch. It is a chance to learn and see some Ciudad Juarez. Keeping us safe is a major concern of the tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and bilingual.

I've got a little bit more information. There are several websites that are called Chihuahua and some are for planning your entire trip. I just kept clicking on them until I found the one with two columns of pictures. This one is just about guided day tours. The website has some gorgeous pictures.

We just got back from our Chihuahua Tour.
Our tour guide was Julian.
I highly recommend it. We went with two other forum members and another couple that took their twin 4 year old daughters.
We had a good time and felt safe the whole way through. It was nice to get out of the hotel and get our minds off of the reason we are here.
We did the City tour, it was 300 pesos and included lunch at a place called El Tragador. It was delicious and great service. Our trip lasted 5 hours. It started at the cathedral, where we saw and went inside two churches (great opportunity to pray:)
from there we went to a muuseum, the Julian took us to a mercado where we bought some small gifts for people back home and then we had lunch and off to another museum. He picks you up and drops you off at your hotel.
Julian is actuall a University professor and he does Tourism on the side as a hobby, he really knows a lot and speaks great English.
I hope you guys will give him a try if you have the opportunity.
